The nelfood.com Story
nelfood.com grew out of the Physical Properties of Food DataBase project.
This project was initiated to collect and make available on the internet reliable and useful data on Physical Properties of Foods.
The project was part funded by the EU, received commercial sponsership from Nestle, RHM and Unilever, was managed by Dr Paul Nesvadba, and the internet work was done by NEL.

Achievements

  1. A Network of users and contributors to the database. There is a core of about 6 participants who are very committed to sustained development of the database. There is a wider circle of about 130 frequent users.
    Over 1100 users were registered at end of May 2001.
  2. A database that is freely available on the Internet at http://www.nelfood.com, populated with 5500 literature records and 1500 data sets with assessed quality.
  3. A framework for sustained long term operation has been established - operation of the database under the auspices of FPAC (Food Properties Awareness Club)..
